To ensure the county tax digest is submitted to the State Department of Revenue in a timely manner, the Barrow County Board of Assessors will be mailing out Annual Notices of Assessment in mid-April which has become the normal time frame. Most residents can expect to see an increase in their overall Fair Market Value on their property. In previous years up to 2013 when the economy and housing market were trending downward, taxable values went down as well. Now that the economy and housing market is in a strong recovery mode, values typically follow suit and trend upwards matching current sales in the market. Building permits for new single family residences and commercial structures are up again, generating over $65 Million in value.
Once you receive your Notice of Assessment you will have 45 days to initiate an appeal of your value if so desired (remember you cannot appeal on the estimated amount of taxes). Should you have questions or concerns you are urged to call the Barrow County Tax Assessor office at 770-307-3108 and speak with one of our staff appraisers who will be glad to assist you Monday-Friday 8:00 – 5:00.
